For the past 58 years, the Robert “Tick” Cloherty – Western Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame has honored and inducted over 735 incredible men and women who have made a lasting impact in Pennsylvania through extraordinary athletic achievement and contributions. Joe was a left handed pitcher for the New York Yankees from 1944-50 and for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1954. His lifetime record was 57-49 with a 3.53 ERA in 285 games. He had 519 strikeouts in his career and led the league in games with 55 in 1948 and 60 in 1949. As a relief pitcher, Joe led the league in 1947 with a 14-7 record and 17 saves and again in 1949 with a 13-8 record and 27 saves. He appeared in the 1947 and 1949 World Series with the Yankees, where he had a 2-1 record, 3.27 ERA, and 15 strikeouts. Joe was born in Cherry Valley, PA in 1917 and passed away in 1980 in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.

Charles "Buzz" Ridl

Buzz attended the University of Pittsburgh from 1968-1975. From 1973-1974 the Pittsburgh team won 22 straight games and played in the NCAA Tournament Final 8. He was named East Coach-of-the- Year in 1974. He was the Head Coach at Westminster High School from 1956-1968. He was part of the UPI-AP National College Division Championship team at the University of Pittsburgh in 1962 with a 26-1 record. He was NAIA Coach- of-the- Year in 1962. In 1984, he was selected as 1 of the 5 best coaches in history of a 32-team NAIA tournament. His career record is 313-174, 6 time- NAIA Tournament participant, was in the finals once and semi-finals twice. He is also a member of the NAIA Basketball Hall of Fame.
