For the past 58 years, the Robert “Tick” Cloherty – Western Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame has honored and inducted over 735 incredible men and women who have made a lasting impact in Pennsylvania through extraordinary athletic achievement and contributions. Played 43 seasons, 12 teams; Negro National American League. Pittsburgh Crawfords, Homestead Grays, Brooklyn Brown Dodgers. “Satchell” Paige, “Josh” Gibson, Ted Page, Cool “Papa” Bell were players Mellix played with. The “Stopper” won 900 games, nine no-hitters, 16 one-hitters, struck out 13 men in one stretch. Pitched exhibition game, Toronto Canada, age 74. Toured 30 States. Branch Rickey called Ralph “The Iron Arm Stopper”. April 29, 1981, was 85 years old
